Karen Schultz

I am a life-long resident of DeForest and currently reside with my ten-year-old daughter Ashlyn. My oldest daughter Aliah, lives in Deforest and will be part of PPCR staff as one of our top notch groomers! My family has been life-long residents of DeForest, having owned the local grocery store for over 40 years "Schultz's Market Place" which sold in 1997. In my professional career, I had been an employee of the State of Wisconsin for 22 years working as administrative rules coordinator at the Department of Workforce Development. I am also a graduate of Lakeland College with a bachelor's degree (graduated cum laude) in Business and Marketing, with a minor in Statistics.

I have always had a love for animals, specifically, dogs, having fostered over 300 dogs personally in my home. These dogs have been abandoned, neglected, abused, starved, and many scheduled for euthanasia. In addition, I own several of my own who make me laugh every day.

Since February 2016, I have served as one of the directors of a multi-state rescue, Key to Happiness Rescue and Transport, Inc. Since creation, we have successfully rescued over 3500 dogs and placed them into permanent homes, working closely with our rescue partners in Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota. Working with so many animals, I have studied animal behavior, worked regularly with professional dog trainers, and spent 100's of hours speaking with specialists and veterinarians on common canine illnesses, including distemper, parvo-virus, Bordetella (kennel cough), canine influenza, parasites and worms (everyone just gagged I am sure). These discussions focused on symptoms, quarantine, transmission and proper disinfecting protocols to eradicate these illnesses from the environment once recognized, to maintain the health of the animals around them and prevent the spreading to others. I am so excited for this new adventure and cannot wait to treat your baby like my own!

I am married with a 2 year old son. We live in waunakee with our 4 dogs; Cullen, 11 years old, Camilla 3 years old, lazslo 1 year old and Muskie 5 months old. I have lived with dogs all my life, and have groomed for 9 years. I thought about being a vet tech, but after a few semesters I chose to become a groomer.

I am canine CPR certified. I have experience with many different breeds and personality types.

I love dogs and have been doing rescue for years! In fact, I have two foster fails of my own, Snickers and Rosie. I recently graduated from the Wisconsin School of Professional Grooming in Oconomowoc. I have now had expericence in the grooming diverse types of doog breeds and tempterments.

I’m currently studying Animal Science & Criminal Justice at UW-Platteville, hoping to work with small animals after I graduate! I don’t have any pets now, but I enjoy being with dogs and giving them lots of attention.

I’m currently a high school student, and have been around dogs my entire life. My family has a 3 year old black lab named Bow, that I’m slightly obsessed with. Looking forward to working with and getting to know your 4 legged fur babies.
